Olex cable to power the Southern Star

25 Sep 2008

Olex are currently supplying almost 30,000m of cable for the new Melbourne Observation Wheel, the Southern Star.

The giant ferris wheel, which is based on the popular London Eye, will be the centrepiece of a $900 million, shopping and entertainment complex at the Docklands.

The $40 million Southern Star wheel is Australia’s first and only observation wheel, and will be the largest ferris wheel in the southern hemisphere when complete, soaring to a height of 120m, or the equivalent of a 40 storey building. Featuring 21 enclosed air-conditioned glass cabins that can accommodate up to 20 passengers, the wheel will boast some of the most spectacular views over the City, Port Phillip Bay and beyond.

Olex are supplying a range of XLPE and Fire Rated cable to the project.

Work began on the wheel in July 2007 and is expected to be completed by November this year.
